When the holidays approach, nothing makes me happier than watching Atlanta Ballet perform The Nutcracker. The company’s talented dancers, including Yuri Possokhov, are truly exceptional. Drosselmeier’s Interactions with Marie
The interaction between Drosselmeier and Marie in The Nutcracker is both recurring and memorable. Drosselmeier is a mouse who has a terrible habit of wounding people. When he encounters Marie, he finds her wearing a bandaged arm and fixed nutcracker jaw. Drosselmeier tells Marie a story about Madam Mouserinks, the Queen of Mice and Princess Pirlipat. Marie is surprise to discover that she loves her uncle no matter his appearance.

We see Drosselmeier getting ready for Stahlbaum Christmas party in the first act. He is getting too life-size dolls into a sleigh and a wrapped present. While we can’t see him personally he is playing an active role in Clara’s dream. Later on we see Drosselmeier transform Clara into a doll allowing her to be transformed into Princess Kraehe.

The Nutcracker is the annual highlight of the Atlanta Ballet’s season and its newest version marks the company return to the Cobb Power Performing Arts Center after two years at the Fox Theatre. The Atlanta Ballet transferred from the Fox Theatre in 2017 but has been bringing most of its repertory to the Cobb since 2008.
